Product Manager

Department: Sales
Location: Waunakee, WI

The Product Manager is responsible for product planning and execution throughout the product lifecycle, including: gathering and prioritizing product and customer requirements, defining the product vision, and working closely with engineering, sales, marketing, and operations to ensure revenue and customer satisfaction goals are met. The Product Manager is also responsible for ensuring products support the company’s overall strategy and goals.

This responsibility extends from increasing the market penetration and profitability of existing products to developing new products for the company using existing ideas, industry experience, contacts and data from customers (Distributors and Bid & Spec reps), Consulting Engineers and prospects, and a variety of other market research methods.

Effective communication and collaboration with all areas of the company is required. This position will work with engineering and marketing to define product release requirements, marketing communications to define the go-to-market strategy (Distribution or Bid & Spec reps), helping them understand the product positioning, key benefits, design for manufacturing considerations, and target customers. This position will also work closely with sales and Technical Sales Support (TSS) and serve as the internal and external advocate for our product offering, occasionally working with the sales channels and key customers. Technical presentations in concert with the RSDs (Regional Sales Directors) and Reps will be required.

The product manager should have his/her pulse on the market. Understanding standards work (ASHRAE 62.2, multi-family work group – HVI) as well as I-Codes.

This position requires travel to customer and non-customer sites in North America (25%).

 

General Essential Duties:

  • Define the product strategy and roadmap. Manage the entire product line life cycle from strategic planning to tactical activities
  • Specify and author market requirements documents for current and future products by conducting market research and using market data, supported by on-going visits to customers and non-customers, as well as other data gathering methods.
  • Drive a solution set across development teams (primarily QPD/Engineering, Marketing Communications, and Operations) through market requirements, product specs, and positioning.
  • Develop and implement a company-wide go-to-market plan (with the VP of Sales & Marketing and the Marketing Manager), working with all departments to execute.
  • Analyze potential partner relationships for products with other Soler & Palau Group companies and other organizations
  • Participate (plan and attend) in industry trade shows
  • Support with annual budget preparation
  • Support our channel to market with sales activities such as presentations
  • Support our representative network and attend sales meetings

 

Product Marketing Essential Duties:

  • Develop product marketing plans and event campaigns to generate product awareness and demand
  • Plan product launches
  • Liaise with advertising and public relations to promote products
  • Support sales and marketing with the necessary product knowledge and technical expertise
  • Conduct product presentations
  • Develop sales tools and sales training material
  • Supply sales with latest research and marketing information
  • Implement marketing plan in conjunction with all departments
  • Drive ongoing improvement in sales and profitability

 

Customer and End-User Support Essential Duties:

  • Coordinate market research to track customer and end-user feedback
  • Use market feedback, including customer and system designer input, product related support issues (warranty or otherwise), and inquiries from users to inform product refinements and ongoing development

 

Education/ Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, Mechanical Engineering (MBA preferred)
  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in product management with demonstrated success defining and launching products
  • Technical background, with experience in air side HVAC
  • Industry knowledgeable in HVAC Energy Recovery technology preferred
  • Microsoft office proficiency, advanced excel skills
  • ERP, CRM and Configurator software solutions understanding and experience.

Required Work Environment/Physical Demands:

Work in an office setting with regular sitting, standing and/or walking, stooping, bending and climbing. Occasional work offsite requiring ability to see, walk, stoop, bend and climb. Must be able to move, lift or carry objects or materials weighing up to 25 pounds. Occasional travel via various modes transportation required.
